lies unsaid

Like the deep thoughtfulness of paintings of Edward Hopper, Cam DeCaussin’s artwork is inspired by walks in ordinary neighborhoods, using the low light of evening, where each window transforms into a TV screen depicting an intimate story.

Simple curiosity, or even voyeurism, is a profound dynamic that we all, as a society, engage in. Concern, observation, awareness, or pleasure can drive an intrinsic need to know. Like the deep thoughtfulness of paintings of Edward Hopper, Cam DeCaussin’s artwork is inspired by walks in ordinary neighborhoods, using the low light of evening, where each window transforms into a TV screen depicting an intimate story.

DeCaussin’s oil paintings are an empathetic witness to domestic scenes that often reveal a sense of anxiety and solitude. While painting each scene, he develops his own narrative, projecting onto it his own struggles and thoughts, while observing with sympathy the faint promise of being a presence in an anonymous life.

DeCaussin lives and works in Phoenix and has a bachelor of fine art from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and a master of fine art from Arizona State University.
